Heather, My Baby Sister – Houston Senior Portrait Photographer

Ok guys.  Get ready for a WHOLE LOT of photos.  See, not only do I really really like this person, but she is also beautiful and fantastic.  And dare I mention – gets her fantastic charm from MUAH!  Haha.  Not really.

I cannot believe that my sister is a senior in high school.  Sometimes I still expect her to be little, but I can’t anymore.  I mean, heck, she’s a good four inches taller than me!

Through high school, she’s competed in basketball, track, and volleyball…

But is also on the student counsel and makes awesome grades.

And she’s got the Perry looks!  :-D

The only problem with doing a session with close family is that they know you really well.

Heather tried to run away…

Punch me…

Made crazy faces…

Punched walls…

But in the end…

It was worth it.

Much thanks to my handsome man, Matt, for assisting on this shoot.

Heather, I’m so proud of you and all of your accomplishments, but most of all… I will love you forever and ever little sis.  I’m so glad we’re friends.

Sara + Michael Part II – Riverbend Country Club Wedding Photography

I know all of you had been waiting with baited breath for part II of Sara and Michael’s wedding…  So without further ado, here it is!

Sara and Michael decided to do a first look.  This means that we were able to snap a few photographs while they were able to take a few breaths before the whole thing!  Sara was so excited to see him.  Can you tell?

The families.

The first kiss as husband and wife!

One of my favorite formal photographs ever taken!  I’m just so hilarious apparently…

And I had to put two photos of this first dance.  I loved it.  Father-daughter dances always make me tear up.  I can’t even imagine what my dance with my dad will be like.  We will be buckets of tears…

Ali playing air guitar.  She’s pretty awesome at it.

Now, this is a photograph that I would normally not include in a post, or in the proofs, or anything, but notice on the right hand side…  Our off camera flash created some fun lines looking as though they are shooting out of her eyes.  I love it!

It was a great time!

Matt and I and the lovely bride and groom.  I <3 them!

And I had to get a photograph with Ali as well!

Saying goodbye.

All in all, it was a great night with some amazing people.  Thank you for trusting me with your wedding.  We had a great time!

With care,

So I just want to start out by saying that I am a huge sucker for freckles.  And books.  And trees.  And adorableness.  And I’m pretty sure that sums up this whole session!  Pretty much some of my favorite things ever!

This is Ellie.

And her little brother Bradley.  This little boy has some of the most expressive eyebrows I’ve seen on anyone under the age of 8.  So cute.  I die.

And this is Timmy.  He has lots of freckles too!  When I was little I always wanted freckles.  I know, I know, so many people just want to get rid of them but don’t!  They are so awesome!

Ellie and her dad.  I love sweet little moments like these…

When babies attack!  I had to share this one because I giggled out loud when I saw it on my screen.

Bradley loves to run.  He pretty much did it the whole session which made things a lot of fun and a whole lot more interesting…

Timmy and his dad in a tree.  Timmy is an expert tree climber so we wanted to put him in his natural element.

You see this hay?  That didn’t stay in his hands long…  He decided that since I was on the ground that I was definitely in need of some hay and put it on me!

One more… :-D

Guys, thank you so much for coming out and being an awesome family!  I had so much fun!

Houston Portrait Photography – Kris Fulk

A little while back, Kris (from Kris Fulk Photography) and I got together to play with some new photography equipment we had acquired and just hang out.  You can see her blog post on it here.

She’s a beautiful person and a great photographer!  You should go check out her work!

You’ll have to excuse the fact that the next three photographs have the same background, but each face she’s making are ones that are very “Kris.”  I just love them.

See… I’m so fun, my friends jump for joy!

Some off camera flash fun.

Zach and Angie – Houston Wedding Photography

Back in March I second shot with the amazing duo of Mike and Deb Turner of MD Turner Photography.  This was my first ever wedding!  Mike and Deb blogged about it on this post.  The wedding was at Grace Presbyterian Church and the reception was at the Westlake Club.  I have been to Grace Presbyterian before for Regional Choir when I was in high school (the sanctuary has awesome acoustics!), but the Westlake Club was new to me!

Loved her shoes!

The awesome Mike and Deb

Molly’s Bridal Session – Nacogdoches Wedding Photography

In May, Matt and I traveled up to Nacogdoches to photograph Molly’s bridals!  I really like doing bridals but sometimes they are hard because I can’t share the images until after the wedding!  Well, Molly and Chris’ big day was June 19th (I’m working on editing them and will have a blog post about it soon!) and now I can share these!

Molly, it was such a joy being able to hang out with you while battling the wind all day!

We started out on the track at Stephen F. Austin State University because Chris has run track for SFA all through college.  Woo!  Go SFA!

And they met at First Baptist…

Isn’t she gorgeous?!?

Just a quick note, I will be out this week for a youth conference my church puts on called Doin’ the Stuff!  This will be my 9th year at it and I’m a room leader for some awesome girls and we’re going to go ointo our community to help impact people’s lives.  It’s such a wonderful opportunity and I am always inspired by seeing the youth getting so into helping others.  I think the leaders may get just as much or more out of the experience than the youth!  The only problem is that I will have no time to edit photos so everything is put on hold for a few days!

With Love,

Ali – Stephen F. Austin High School Grad Portrait Session

Man oh man.  With this session I just couldn’t decide which pictures to post!  Ali is a senior in the Sugar Land area who I just had the pleasure of meeting.  A beautiful girl through and through who is a dancer and way sarcastic.  My kind of girl.  You are going to LOVE SFASU next semester!  We did our session in Nacogdoches where I went to school.  I love this town.  Seriously!  It’s so great for pictures.  I know more great places to take pictures there than in Houston!

If I had to choose one favorite, it would be this one…  But I’m not really choosing, I think.  I mean, ugh, Ali!  You are gorgeous!

My wonderful assistant Liza!

And you might recognize the Sarah in this picture.  I just did an engagement session with her (you can see it here).  She was there for support and a great time.  I really am falling for your family, just FYI!

With Love,

Rachel Hope

Missouri City Family Portrait Photography – Extended Vahlkamp Family

When Win and Erinn asked if I could do some family portraits with them, I was very excited.  I love this family (we’re in the same homegroup together and seem to take similar classes at church) and we’ve done a session before!  This time it was because Win’s whole side of the family would be in the area and they wanted pictures together.  Whoa.  16 people in all!  We had a fun short time together and then they invited me to eat gumbo with them.  I hadn’t ever tried gumbo and now I like it!  Thanks guys for the great afternoon!

Logos Prep Prom – Sugar Land Portrait Photography

So, I started this blog post being all mushy about how much I love my little sister.  I’ll save that for another time because it’s not just pictures of my sis that I’m showing!  It’s also pictures of her awesome and gorgeous friends!  I am so proud of Heather and her accomplishments.

Some of the girls getting ready.

My SEESter!

Amy checking herself out.

The whole gang!

What’s Inspiring Me Now – Books – The Bible

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately. There are a lot of things in my life that are changing and require a great deal of time and effort and thinking.  It can be exhausting!

I’ve been driven recently to read more.  I’ve picked up a few of the books that I had started reading and then got too busy with school to finish, but the book I’ve received the most from has been the Bible.  The other night I opened up my Bible to Acts and just started reading.

These stories – this living word – makes me yearn for God more and more.  It saddens me so much how routine I can be.  How complacent I can be with my relationship with God.  Ugh.  I want to leave this behind and move forward in knowing my savior more!  Acts recounts stories of normal people living an extraordinary life.  Of being open to change.  Of pushing through their fears.  Of loving nothing more than God.

But most of all, it’s about God meeting us where we are at.

Listen, err… Read this!

“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands.  And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything.  Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else…  God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.  For in him we live and move and have our being.  As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.'” (Acts 17: 24-25; 27-28)

I remember being in a group once and a woman talking about how the Bible to her was a love letter.  Something that she went back to time and time again because it changes as you read it.  Or perhaps you change as you read it!  A love letter changes it’s meaning as your love grows and deepens.  I desperately want that.

And because every post is better with a photograph, here is a photograph of one of the most inspiring women I know.  We went and did a night portrait session which I’ll be blogging about soon.

It was my first time to use my shnazzy reflector that Matt got me for Christmas!
